Save the Jubilee Hall

need your help!  We have started a petition to save the Jubilee Hall from demolition.  Petition forms are available at Stewarts Fruit and Flowers, Rollo's Fish and Chip Shop, Sneddons Bakers, Ali's Grocers and The Black Bull, from any Choir member or by making contact through this website.

South Lanarkshire Council say its future is under review but no decision has yet been made, however strong rumours indicate that it will be demolished and replaced by residential flats.

Councillors and Council officials argue that the new primary schools can meet the community's requirements but they can never provide the theatre-style facilities needed or the booking independence required for all functions.

The Jubilee will be around 180 years old this year!

It was build around 1828 for the Burgher and Reformed Presbyterian Church of Lesmahagow, which was disolved in 1869 and the church sold to the  renowned J B Greenshields of the Kerse, the author of The Annals of Lesmahagow, published in 1864.  The  Hall had many names in this period, eventually finishing up as the Jubilee Hall to celebrate Queen Victoria's Jubilee.  In 1877 J B Greenshields gifted the Hall to the village, and it was run by a trust until 1951 when it was handed over to the then Second District Council.
